The cards are free and available through either our or the city council’s websites.The b_line card is a cut-price travel discount and library card for those aged 11 to 19. It is for young people in school, college, on a training course or in an apprenticeship.Initially the £1.50 fare is available with bus operators that currently accept b_line cards, and will include travel on direct services into neighbouring local authority areas. Win tickets to Shine A LightWould you like to win tickets to a stunning show of light and sound at one of Derbyshire’s historic venues this December?See the history of Elvaston Castle come to brilliant life in a spectacular experience to remember, created by internationally-renowned Derbyshire-born video projection artists Illuminos.You can watch the projection as many times as you like, and you’ll notice something new each time.  The castle shop and Wyatt’s café will be open for hot drinks and there will be hot food vendors and a licensed bar in the castle courtyard. There’ll be Christmas carols between each show, Christmas craft activities for children, a festive grotto, and craft and gift stalls.Tickets are now on sale for the event taking place on 8, 9 and 10 December, priced £10 for adults and £6 per child (aged four to 12 inclusive, free for children aged three and under). You’ll receive an email to confirm your application has been received.Turning down the HEAT and cutting carbonDo you want to build your knowledge and confidence about the costs and potential savings of improving the energy efficiency of your home? Is your home particularly hard to heat?If your answer is ‘yes’, then free support and impartial advice are available to homeowners in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire as part of a new pilot project we are supporting – the HEAT Hub.A Home Energy Advice Team, part of the HEAT Hub, will be giving in-depth help to 360 homes and supporting hundreds more over the next two years. The project will be led by two charities Marches Energy Agency and Nottingham Energy PartnershipWe’re backing projects like these as a key aim in our Climate Change Strategy  is to reduce carbon emissions from the housing sector. Funding for the project has come from the Department for Energy Security & Net Zero.

It’s available to everyone aged 60 to 74 years.Everyone aged 60 to 74 years who is registered with a GP and lives in England is automatically sent an NHS bowel cancer screening kit every 2 years.The NHS bowel cancer screening kit can save your life. Just a tiny sample detects signs of cancer before you notice anything wrong.You collect a small sample of poo on a small plastic stick and put it into the sample bottle and post it to a lab for testing.If you’re sent a kit, put it by the loo. One in three adults in the UK have high blood pressure. The council’s free inhouse healthy lifestyles service Live Life Better Derbyshire will be delivering blood pressure checks over the coming months. It’s also a great opportunity to find out more about Live Life Better Derbyshire’s free healthy lifestyle services. These include support to help you stop smoking, help with weight management and information about how to get more active. Derbyshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Health and Communities, Councillor Carol Hart said: “Getting your blood pressure checked is really important. “High blood pressure, also known as hypertension, doesn’t often have noticeable symptoms. “But if it is left untreated can increase your risk of serious health problems such as heart attacks and strokes. “Having this quick test is the only way to find out what your blood pressure is – and it could save your life.” For more information on blood pressure checks, visit www.nhs.uk/bloodpressure There will be free blood pressure check-ups held in South Derbyshire on the follow dates:Wednesday 22nd November from 9am to midday at South Derbyshire Job Centre workplace event.If you’re over 40 you can get your blood pressure checked for free with an NHS Health Check at your GP, at most pharmacies and in some workplaces too. Government has announced that money will be made available for residents and businesses in England that have been affected by recent flooding. At the moment we do not have all of the details, but as soon as we do we’ll work with our district and borough council colleagues to get the arrangements set up as soon as possible. We realise that the money the Government is making available is urgently needed by those who have been flooded and once we have the details we will work as quickly as possible to provide information about how to apply. It is for young people in school, college, on a training course or in an apprenticeship.  Scam Letter Warning If you receive a letter offering compensation to you if you’ve been a victim of scams, please don’t fill in any forms with your personal and financial information. Derbyshire County Council’s trading standards team is warning you not to respond if you’ve had a letter with the Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI) logo – it’s a scam. Derbyshire residents have been in touch about the nationwide scam, which often targets previous scam victims. The bogus letter tells people to fill in a ‘creditors debt form’, as part of a compensation scheme, but it’s a way of fraudsters getting personal/bank details. If you receive one contact National Consumer Advice helpline on 0808 223 1133.Lower Cost Broadband Social tariffs are discounted broadband and mobile deals for people on Universal Credit and other benefits. These tariffs are delivered in the same way as normal packages, just at a lower price. Amid rising living costs, we’ve been encouraging more broadband and mobile companies to offer social tariffs to help customers on low incomes. With over 40 schemes to help with the cost of living, discover what support is available for you at gov.uk/helpforhouseholds    Priority Services Register The priority services register is a free support service to help people in vulnerable situations. The scheme is offered by your energy supplier.  If you are eligible and find it hard to deal with your energy supply, you could get extra help from your energy company. Find out more about the priority services register.   Community Banks At Christmas It can be an expensive time of year with many people feeling they have to borrow money to afford food, presents and celebrations over Christmas. If you struggle to access mainstream banking services this may mean you’ve thought about using payday loans or doorstep lenders, which have much higher interest rates and will cost you a lot more. However, did you know that community banks offer savings accounts as well as lower cost loan alternatives that might be a safer option? Find out more about Derbyshire Toy Libraries here.   Energy Efficiency Support More than 300,000 families are set to save hundreds of pounds on their bills thanks to new energy efficiency upgrades. The government has launched the Great British Insulation Scheme to help families to get free or cheaper insulation to reduce their home’s energy bills. They are now setting up a ‘Library of Things’ which will be hosted in our library. One from another area is pictured here..There are more than 70 Library of Things across the country and the idea is that you borrow things that you only need occasionally rather than buying them. Items like carpet cleaners, hedge trimmers, drills, tents, pressure washers etc. It’s a great way to save money and resources. Transition Buxton is currently gathering items and recruiting volunteers with a plan to launch the library before the end of the year. There will be a charge of £5 for the library of things membership, £2.50 for the unwaged. Would you or someone you know, like to be involved in representing the Repton Parish?  Repton Parish Council has a casual vacancy for one councillor, due to a resignation   This now means that the vacancy can be filled by co-opting a councillor. This person would hold the post of Councillor until the next local elections which are due in May 2027 for the Repton Parish, which includes not only Repton but also Milton.  The criteria below are the same for a Councillor that is voted in during an election or co-opted.

What is the Purpose of a Parish Councillor?

You are there to represent the views of all the residents within your parish.  You will be responsible for the running of services the Council provide, such as the burial ground, allotments, arboreta and recreation facilities at Mitre Field and Broomhills recreation ground.  You work to bring forward issues that are important to the residents that you represent and help to plan how the Parish Council can improve the Parish’s facilities.  The Council are trying to improve Youth Facilities in the area at the moment.  You can comment on planning applications in the area and represent the views of the residents that may be affected by the plans.  You must be willing to represent the views of the whole community.

What criteria must you meet to be a Councillor?

1. Over the age of 18 years and
2. Be a British citizen, an eligible Commonwealth citizen or a citizen of any member of the European Union and
3. Be registered as a local government elector for the parish OR occupy as an owner or tenant, land or premises in the parish for the past 12 months OR work in the parish as your principal or only place of work OR live within three miles of the parish boundary

What obligations are there?

1. You must sign a declaration of office before you can attend your first meeting.
2. You must abide by the Parish Council’s code of conduct, this can be found on the website
3. Complete a register of interests which will be published on the Parish Council’s website and that of South Derbyshire District Council.  This ensures that you have declared any interests that you may have of a financial nature or that may benefit you or could influence what decisions you make as a Councillor.

What will be expected of you?

Repton Parish Council has 11 meetings per year; these are usually held on the second Monday of the month at 19:30 (excluding August).  Usually held in Repton Village Hall, the October meeting is held in Milton Village Hall. You should attend as many of these as possible.  You will be expected to have read the agenda and previous month’s minutes before the meeting.  The meeting is your chance to present your views and that of the residents that you represent.  Committee meetings are also held for Finance and Flooding.  The Council has various working groups that you should try and involve yourself with, hopefully these will encompass areas of the parish that you may already have an interest in. Post Covid Services Want to Hear from You The NHS in Derby and Derbyshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) is currently in the process of reviewing the Post (Long) Covid Service. Menopausal Symptoms : Menopause Matters Supporting those affected by dementia who are under the age of 65People who are aged under 65 and affected by dementia are now able to benefit from the support of a specialist advisor. The aim of the Younger People with Dementia project is to ensure there is a clear and collaborative diagnostic process and pathway which is specific to those with young onset dementia. Lisa Byrne is the Young Onset Dementia Advisor and will consider the special attention needed for young onset dementia suffers, their needs with regards to the transition between the assessment service and beyond and will offer information and advice to both pre and post diagnostic cases.
